 Welcome to Troop 848!

BSA Troop 848 is located in the Clear Lake area in Houston, Texas and meets at Gloria Dei Lutheran Church.  The Troop was founded in 1965 and has proudly produced excellent Scouts, many of which have earned the rank of Eagle.  Troop 848 is one of the oldest and largest Boy Scout troops in the Clear Lake area.  The Troop typically meets on Tuesdays from 7:00 PM until 8:30 PM.

Check us out and see why we are so popular!   If you have any questions along the way, let us know.

Here are some of the fun things we do:

  • Out of state summer camps to some of the best camps in the country – Colorado, Tennessee, Georgia, and Oklahoma. We travel in style overnight in two motor coaches with bathrooms, Wi-Fi, movies, and professional drivers.
  • Most monthly camping in central Texas, including the beautiful Hill Country
  • Shooting sports – the troops own all their own equipment and have trained instructors – shotgun, rifle, archery
  • Rock climbing – the troops own their own climbing gear and have trained instructors
  • Canoeing – the troops own their own canoes
  • “Hunger Games” Wilderness Survival campout with some fun twists
  • Ziplining in the Hill Country
  • Tubing on the San Marcos River, including “The Chutes”
  • Biking the Mission Trail of San Antonio, winding up at the Alamo
  • Pioneering – using our knot and lashing skills to make giant slingshots and have tennis ball wars
  • Motor boating with tubes and wake boards and other fun water activities on Lake Livingston
  • High adventure opportunities to spend 12 days backpacking at Philmont in the New Mexico mountains about every other year (after scout turns 14)
  • High adventure opportunities to spend 7 days scuba diving at Sea Base in the Florida Keys about every other year (after scout turns 13)
  • And much, much more!

Troop 848 has had over 300 scouts achieve Eagle rank! Why? Because they love the program and therefore stick around until they are 18, which gives them plenty of time to get their Eagle.

Troop 848 is linked with Troop 849 for girls founded in 2019. Our troops are both youth-led so that the scouts can learn leadership skills that will last a lifetime. However, there are a large number of dedicated adult volunteers who lend their talents and encouraging support to ensure that our scouts have fun, experience adventure, and develop friendships.

Formal information sessions for Webelos scouts and new scouts will be held in January/February.  We welcome scouts and parents to join us at one of the sessions, or we can arrange another date for you to visit and meet our scout and adult leaders.
